It’s no secret that #CanadaLovesScience. University of Toronto graduate Jesse Hildebrand is out to prove it by celebrating science coast-to-coast this week by co-hosting 280 public events in 40 cities all across Canada from Sept 21-27, 2015.
The nationwide response has been overwhelmingly positive; Hildebrand estimates that for every institution that declined to participate, another 10 gave an enthusiastic yes.
Participating institutions include universities, libraries, gardens, forests, zoos, observatories, and museums. There will truly be something for everyone, from the novice to the expert.

For the astronomer in you, you can expect to stare off into the wonder of the night sky, spotting the Earth’s shadow on this weekend’s total lunar eclipse, and viewing light from stars that has taken millions of years to reach you – a true look back in time.
If you’re a Canadian nature lover, take a stroll through the woods or the local zoo. Visit the creatures and forests that form our wonderful ecosystems, and see how they thrive and evolve together.
For the foodies, admire the local food gardens and learn more about the science that brings fresh produce from the farm to the table.
Would you prefer to have a seat and take in a movie? Fascinating films will be screening near you, from documentaries like the Symphony of the Soil, to blockbuster hits like Jurassic World followed by Q&A with real life palaeontologists.
Of course, who would want to miss all of the live hands on activities? Check out everything from robots, 3D printing and augmented reality, to a classic egg drop challenge, to opening up a real beehive.
Even if you can’t make it in person, you can join in online though a Google hangout with scientists from around the world.
Check out all the events, sorted by province and city, at the Science Literacy Week website.
